Introduction
The term “hacking” is historically inaccurate. In the early
days of computers, the term “hacker” was given to those people who had a
high-level of the workings of a computer and of the Internet. These hackers
would attempt to gain access to information systems purely for the fun and the
challenge.
The term “hacking” can be traced back to the beginnings of
the Internet. Hackers are those who gain, or attempt to gain, access to an
information system. Some people view “Hacking” as an oxymoron. These people
view it just as if they were calling someone an “honest criminal”.
There is nothing illegal or improper about “hacking”, it is
the outcome and possible results and
disclosure of data that is illegal. What makes it legal hacking or criminal
hacking are the circumstances where it is used and what is done with the
results.
